Citizen FC0010-55D with Eco-Drive technology
Our watch of the week is the Citizen FC0010-55D women's watch. It is a very special Citizen watch, as it uses Eco-Drive technology. In our shop, you will find a selected range of watches that feature this technology. But what exactly is Eco-Drive, and how does it work? Find out more here.
Technology for the future
The energy crisis in the mid-1970s was one of the triggers for CITIZEN to find alternative energy sources. CITIZEN noticed several weaknesses in quartz watches, such as the limited lifespan of the battery and the environmentally harmful effects of disposable batteries. It began with a simple but revolutionary concept: a watch that keeps running all the time — completely without a battery. Eco-Drive converts both natural and artificial light into driving energy for watches. This makes battery changes unnecessary, conserves natural resources, and saves you money. A solar cell is located beneath the dial and turns the watch into a radio-controlled solar watch. It converts light into energy with great efficiency. The energy is stored in a microcell. It keeps most watches functioning for at least 6 months, even if they are stored in the dark. Around 4 million Eco-Drive watches are sold each year. This saves at least 4 million batteries annually that would otherwise have to be disposed of. If one battery is about 2.1 mm high, all of these batteries would form an 8,400 m tower — almost as high as Mount Everest.
The Citizen FC0010-55D
Our watch of the week features a silver-coloured link bracelet made of partially brushed stainless steel. The dial is also silver-coloured and impresses with numerous functions. In addition to displaying the hour, minute, and second, the multifunction watch can also show the date, day of the week, 24-hour time, as well as 4 zones (Europe, Japan, USA, China) and world time in 26 cities. Along with Eco-Drive technology, 10 bar water resistance, and these functions, this wristwatch is a true all-rounder.
