The Race means the race or the contest in German, as a competition.
Race therefore stands for a competition between people or also animals. For example, track and field, cycling, motor sports, motorcycle racing, horse racing, greyhound racing, or dog sled racing.
Different racing sports
The term track and field covers all sports in which the natural human running motion is at the forefront. In these events, people compete against each other, with a specific optimized distance usually playing a role.
Motorsport includes all sports whose goal is to move motor-powered vehicles as quickly or skillfully as possible by their drivers. Essentially, this includes motor sports such as Formula 1, rallying, motorcycle racing, and motocross. It also includes competitions with special vehicles such as tractors (tractor pulling), trucks (truck racing), or airplanes (air racing).
Horse racing is a sport in which horses must cover a certain distance as quickly as possible. Horse racing is among the oldest organized sports in human history. It primarily serves breeding selection, i.e. horse breeding.
For centuries, however, horse racing has also been a leisure activity for people. Keeping a racehorse in training is expensive and risky. That is why there are owner partnerships – a kind of club for maintaining one or more racehorses. As a spectator or bettor, anyone can take part in horse racing; these events are held in stadiums with covered stands.
