Ferdisign 4030 Wooden Watch

Our clock of the week this week is a special wall clock made of teak wood. It is the Ferdisign 4030 by a Dutch artist. Despite the dark teak wood, the clock can be combined very well with modern living spaces.

The elegant teak wood

The teak tree, or teak, is a plant species from the family of the mint family. It is native to the deciduous monsoon forests of South and Southeast Asia. The teak tree produces very valuable wood and is one of the most important export woods in the Asian region. The German term Teak is derived via English from the South Indian language Malayalam.

The wood has a light sapwood layer two to three centimeters thick. The heartwood is yellow to dark brown in color. The wood is striped by dark olive-brown to black streaks (black-stripe teak).

The main use of the teak tree is its wood. In addition to the tall, knot-free trunks, its special properties make the wood valuable. It is easy to work with and dries without cracking or warping. Thanks to its natural oils, the surface remains attractive and weather-resistant even without further treatment. However, the rubber content makes gluing more difficult, and other ingredients make varnishing and artificial coloring more difficult, so special adhesives and varnishes must be used for these purposes. Instead of varnishing teak furniture, it is often treated with teak oil.

Our clock of the week- Ferdisign 4030

The 4030 Ferdisign wall clock is an artist's clock designed by the Dutch artist Ferdi de Bruijn. It consists of a housing made of individual brown-reddish teak wood elements, all connected to one another. They are arranged like puzzle pieces in a futuristic style. Because the parts are not arranged quite evenly, the clock looks very open at the top and bottom and by no means rigid. Four silver-colored nails in the teak wood serve as dot indices. The hands are also silver-colored. The wall clock is also one of the XXL clocks, as it has a height of 60 cm.

This living room clock can be perfectly combined with a modern living space. In particular, cold gray tones in tiles or wallpaper go well with the warm brown tones of the teak wood clock. These combinations of warm and cold tones in living spaces are very trendy right now.
