The History of Seiko Diving Watches
1983
Seiko diving watches prove their exceptional water resistance in initial tests.
In May 1983, two Professional Divers 600m watches were attached to the outer hull of the 'SINKAI 2000', a manned Japanese research submarine. The watch was originally designed for use down to a depth of 600m, but it withstood water pressure at depths of up to 1062m. The watch's legibility, precision, and appearance remained intact, further strengthening the credibility of the timepiece.
In September 2014, an even more extreme test confirmed the further development of Seiko's diving watches. The two test watches were selected at random. The watches were mounted on the outer hull of the 'The KAIKO 7000ll' and monitored with a high-resolution camera.
2014
All test watches function perfectly at depths of over 3000m. However, this depth cannot be guaranteed for all products. Research continues…
