Hermle 30504-002100 World Time Clock
Our watch of the week this week is the Hermle 30504-002100 world time clock. World time clocks have always been very important for everyone in the world, as they allow us to stay connected to the world and major metropolises, and because we also need them for global exchange.
A world time clock is a clock that shows the time of several or all of the world's time zones. While world time clocks in past decades consisted mainly of larger installations, there have been more and more digital models in recent years, some of which also fit on a desk or even on the wrist and take any date change into account. There are also a wide variety of websites on the internet that deal with the topic.
At first glance, the simple division into 24 time zones is complicated by locally differing daylight saving time changes and half-hour increments - the latter especially in Asia.
Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC for short, is the world time currently in use. It was introduced in 1972. A time indication in UTC gives the corresponding Central European Time (CET), which applies in Germany, Austria and other Central European countries, by adding one hour. The Central European Summer Time (CEST) used in summer is obtained by adding two hours.
UTC is used as world time wherever a globally uniform time scale is needed:
- in aviation and shipping
- in meteorology
- in international projects that span multiple time zones
- on the International Space Station (ISS)
- in Antarctica
- shortwave broadcasting
- in emails
The Hermle 30504-002100 world time clock has a brushed stainless steel frame and a glass front. The Hermle clock is a quartz clock, and with a diameter of 30 cm it is rather small and elegant. It has a white dial with black baton indices and hands. The white dial also features a black world map with some metropolises and major cities. These are linked to the lower part of the clock, where you can read the world times.
