Hermle 70998-Q70721 in Bicycle Chain Look
Does a bicycle chain meet an elegant Hermle wall clock? Our watch of the week, the Hermle 70998-Q70721, comes in a truly unusual design. In the finely crafted pendulum clock, alongside the pendulum we also find a blue-colored chain that looks very much like a bicycle chain. But what is behind it, and why do both elements fit so well into a modern interior, even though at first glance they do not seem to belong together.
Where the bicycle-chain look comes from
Industrial design meets the finest Hermle wall clock. Everyone knows them: dirty, greasy, and oily old bicycle chains. In everyday life, they are used only to move the bicycle forward. They are part of the chain drive, which transfers the torque generated by the rider’s pedaling force to the drive wheel. In this way, all the links fit together, and an aesthetic form of the bicycle chain is created.
Our Hermle 70998-Q70721 chain clock
Our Hermle 70998-Q70721 wall clock has a case made of silver-colored, slim aluminum rods. These are held together on three axes with clear Plexiglas. The dial is now a silver-colored wheel that resembles a bicycle’s drive wheel. In the center is an attached blue wheel that represents a brake disc. Behind it, you can see the mechanical movement, and in front of it are the black hands. The weight hangs on the chains, and a pendulum hangs behind it. These very chains are styled like a bicycle chain, but they are colored blue.
