Holzkern Öresund Ladies' Wristwatch

Our Watch of the Week is the Holzkern Öresund women's watch. In general, Holzkern watches are very special watches thanks to their sustainability and natural materials. In this article, you will learn more about the materials Leadwood and lapis lazuli and, of course, about our wooden wristwatch of the week.

Natural Material Leadwood

Leadwood, also known as ahnenbaum or Combretum imberbe, is a distinctive and often impressive type of bushveld tree from the southern Afrotropics. This medium to large tree has a sparse, semi-deciduous canopy of gray-green leaves. The branches and leaves are hairless, as the name imberbe suggests. The wood is dense and very hard, difficult to plane, but drills, sands, and turns well. It is termite-resistant. It was formerly used for railway sleepers and is now valued as wood for decorative work and furniture.

Lapis Lazuli – blue as the sea

Lapis lazuli, also called lapis stone or simply lapis, is a naturally occurring, deep blue metamorphic rock that, depending on the source, consists of varying proportions of the minerals lazurite, pyrite, or calcite. The word lapis comes from Latin and means "stone." Today, the natural lapis lazuli pigment, which remains very expensive due to the complex extraction process, is especially valued by restorers in Europe. In East Asia (especially Japan and China) and Arabia, the high esteem for natural ultramarine as a "heavenly" and therefore also princely blue remains undiminished.

Our Holzkern Öresund

Our Watch of the Week, the Holzkern Öresund, has a link bracelet made of silver-colored stainless steel and black-brown Leadwood wood. The case is also made of stainless steel with a black-brown Leadwood wood bezel. The chronograph dial is divided into two sections and surrounded by a silver-colored frame. It features small Roman numerals for the minute and second markers. The upper part of the dial consists of black-brown Leadwood and a chronograph that stops the minutes. The lower part of the dial consists of blue lapis lazuli and a chronograph that stops the seconds. The hands are silver-colored and the date can be read. It is also a quartz wristwatch.
