Inspiration Seaplane- JVD J1090.1 Seaplane

Our watch of the week is the JVD J1090.1 Seaplane. Inspired by seaplanes, this men's wristwatch is a true all-rounder. In addition to its stylish sporty look, this sports watch also has other exciting features.

What are seaplanes?

Seaplane is the collective term for aircraft that are designed so they can take off from and land on bodies of water. A general distinction is made between floatplanes and flying boats. If a flying boat can also operate on airfields on land thanks to an additional retractable wheeled undercarriage, it is called an amphibious aircraft. The general rules of flight also apply to seaplanes.

Instead of a wheeled undercarriage, a floatplane has usually two boat-shaped, streamlined floats that are enclosed on all sides and are usually connected to the fuselage by braced struts. When stationary, they act as buoyant bodies through their displacement, so that the aircraft floats. The floats are designed so that, as the aircraft accelerates during the takeoff run, they quickly start planing with low resistance. The aircraft can then soon reach its takeoff speed and lift off from the water surface. The so-called step on the underside, located just before the halfway point of the float length, makes the transition to planing easier by causing the water flow to detach in a controlled way from the rear underwater section of the float.

Often, the floats at the rear are fitted with small fold-up water rudders to make steering on the water safer during maneuvering. Some types, especially light aircraft, can be converted from floats to wheeled undercarriage and vice versa with relatively little effort.
