Karlsson Alarm Clock KA5654BK

An alarm clock is a clock that is meant to wake a person from sleep at a previously set time or remind them of a specific appointment. This usually happens through an acoustic signal. Today, an alarm clock is much more than that. It serves as a stylish eye-catcher and a home accessory in the bedroom.

The alarm functions of the past

For a long time, clocks were luxury items. For the vast majority of the population, sleep ended when it got light or when the rooster crowed. The few who had to get up before dawn were woken by the night watchman.

Clocks with an additional alarm function have existed for as long as wheel clocks have existed at all, that is, since the 14th century. Descriptions of water clocks from antiquity have survived, in which the water level in a vessel indicated the time. Floats could be placed in the vessel that triggered bell mechanisms or automata via a lever at a certain fill level. In the monasteries of the 12th century, alarm clocks with bell signals are said to have reminded people to keep to prayer times.

Nowadays, especially young people, use a mobile phone or smartphone for an alarm function. Since the phone is usually within easy reach around the clock anyway, it can be grabbed quickly. When charging the battery at night, the phone is usually next to you on the bedside table anyway. So the alarm clock on the phone can prove to be very practical.

Even so, for many people the classic alarm clock remains the choice, one that does not need charging and makes no demands at all. Some opt for the practical version, others for a cool eye-catcher on the bedside table.

Our clock of the week also counts among these eye-catchers.

The nimble black wooden block, which at first glance does not look like an alarm clock at all, has an alarm function on the back. That is also where the battery is inserted. A USB cable is also included. The Arabic white numerals light up in digital time display through the black wooden dial. That is definitely something different!
