Karlsson KA5668BK Mirror Clock
Our clock of the week is the Karlsson KA5668BK, a clock that also functions as a mirror. It can be beautifully placed in any living space, because a mirror combined with a wall clock offers more functionality and style at the same time than you could ever expect.
A mirror is a reflective surface - smooth enough that reflected light retains its parallelism according to the law of reflection, allowing an image to form. The roughness of the mirror surface must be smaller than about half the wavelength of the light. A rougher white surface also reflects all light, but in this case it is scattered chaotically in all directions.
Whether in the bedrooms or in the bathroom, this wall clock is perfect for looking at yourself, putting on makeup, or getting ready in general.
In living rooms and dining rooms, the clock can be used for the same reason. Here, however, it primarily serves as an absolute eye-catcher.
The symbolism of the mirror
The mirror is an extremely ambivalent symbol. On the one hand, it is considered a sign of vanity and lust. On the other hand, it also symbolizes self-knowledge, wisdom, and truth: the origin of the still-common expression “to hold up a mirror to someone” or “mirror image of the soul.” In ancient cultures, the mirror represented a person's soul, in which the soul could also be captured and held. In ancient Egypt, the words “mirror” and “life” were identical. Celtic women were buried with their mirror for the same reason. In Greek mythology, Dionysus' soul is captured by the Titans in a mirror. In Buddhism, too, human existence is compared to the reflection in a mirror.
The variants of the Karlsson KA5668BK
