Newgate BBUL60R in Retro Look

Our watch of the week is the Newgate BBUL60R. This is a very special retro wall clock from the British manufacturer Newgate, which is known for its eye-catching, trend-setting clocks.

The Newgate Tradition

The Newgate tradition goes back to the time when Newgate was a city gate in the west of the Roman/medieval city wall of London. It stood between the more westerly Ludgate and the more easterly Aldersgate. From 1188 to 1902, the notorious Newgate Prison was located at Newgate. Today, the criminal court "Old Bailey" stands on this site.

Out of a love for antiques, the founders Jim and Cloe made vintage motifs their mission. The British clock brand Newgate was founded over 25 years ago. Since then, in their research they have come across many old clock movements and began creating quirky and unique wall clocks. In addition to antique-style and vintage wall clocks, there are also office, kitchen, and table clocks. Stylistically, they are quite varied and can be classic or modern. However, the British flair remains in every clock.

The meaning of retro

The term retro refers in many fields to phenomena that deliberately draw on older traditions or characteristics. In this context, the term vintage is also discussed. The term retro wave describes a cultural movement that presents itself as a deliberately backward-looking fashion. Works of art or cultural achievements are created through references to concepts or styles from past eras.
