The Gear

A gear is a specially shaped wheel: it has teeth, also called “cogs.” These teeth mesh with the teeth of another gear, and when one wheel turns, the other turns with it. Gears can be found wherever power and movement need to be transferred from one part to another: in machines, cars, clocks, or even on bicycles. Usually, the motion is transferred directly from one wheel to the next, but sometimes it happens via a chain, as on a bicycle. Such gears are actually called sprockets. Gears come in different shapes and sizes, and are made from different materials. In old windmills, you can sometimes still find ones made of wood. Today, however, they are usually made of metal or plastic.

It is common for wristwatches with an open balance wheel to have a movement powered by gears. What is extremely rare, however, is for a living room clock to also take the form of a gear. Here you can see some examples of how the Nextime wall clock can be decorated in the living room. Thanks to its black color, it can be combined with almost any color. Because of its gear look, the dial is transparent in some places and features another, almost transparent gear in others. In the living room example, the Nextime 3241zw pairs well with the geometric patterns on cushions or rugs. The colors gray, blue, and black and white go particularly well with it.

The wall clock is made of a frosted transparent acrylic case. It has a quartz movement and a diameter of 35 cm. This wall clock comes to life through its rotating gears. At the same time, the acrylic gears are partly matte and partly glossy, so a different look of the clock can be seen with every movement.
