Our watch of the week is the Holzkern Heather
women's watch. The distinctive
wristwatch from the Holzkern brand consists of a wooden strap and a marble dial. In this article, learn more about the two natural materials wood and marble, and of course about our watch of the week as well.
Component of the Holzkern wood strap watch
English walnut is a deciduous tree that sheds its leaves in summer and belongs to the walnut family. It is usually simply called walnut tree or walnut. The name originally means foreign, that is, a nut coming from the Romans, since it came to Germany via France or Italy. Its fruits are the well-known walnuts. However, the tree also provides valuable wood.
This wood was also used for the strap of our watch of the week. Together with silver-colored stainless steel, this creates a two-piece link bracelet.
The dial of the wooden strap watch contains
marble. The word marble is related to shimmer and shine, and it is a carbonate rock made up of the minerals calcite, dolomite, or aragonite. However, there are different meanings of the word marble: in petrographic terms, it is a metamorphic rock formed by the transformation (metamorphism) of limestone and other carbonate-rich rocks, deep within the Earth through heat and pressure. In addition to the petrographic term, cultural and economic definitions of marble can be distinguished. A number of significant buildings and works of art are made of marble. Today, marble is used mainly for floor and stair coverings, wall tiles, sinks, and facade panels. The extraction of marble, which has been carried out for thousands of years, is still a laborious and time-consuming process today.
