Our new Bauhaus wristwatches

We have added a new watch brand to our shop! These are the timeless wristwatches from Bauhaus. Everyone knows the term Bauhaus these days! But what does it actually mean? We report on the history of Bauhaus and introduce you to some of our new Bauhaus wristwatches.

The History of Bauhaus

The State Bauhaus, now usually just called Bauhaus, was an art school founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius in Weimar. In terms of style and concept, it was something completely new at the time, as Bauhaus represented a merging of art and craftsmanship. Today, the historic Bauhaus is regarded as the most influential educational institution in the fields of architecture, art, and design in the 20th century. Bauhaus existed alongside and within the Weimar Republic from 1919 to 1933 and is now considered worldwide to be the home of the avant-garde of Classical Modernism in all areas of fine and applied art and architecture. The impact of Bauhaus continues to this day and has significantly shaped the image of modernist movements.

At the beginning of the 1970s, a range of furniture and everyday objects came onto the market as licensed reissues, which to this day shape the idea of a unified Bauhaus style. Characteristic of this furniture is the renunciation of the former bright colors in favor of black, white, or chrome. Works and documents from Bauhaus as well as relevant literature are collected at the Bauhaus Archive (Berlin) and the Bauhaus Museum (Weimar) and made accessible to the public.
