Unpack, align, and properly assemble pendulum clocks

This article is about the correct setup of pendulum clocks. Some customers have trouble finding the pendulum in the box, notice that it is scratched, or have difficulty hanging the pendulum in the clock. To make setting up your clock easier, we have put together a few steps and tips here.

1. You receive your box

AMS clocks always come in the original box. Some customers stated that our AMS clocks do not arrive in their original box. However, AMS always delivers in a plain brown box with a small sticker showing the item number. We can therefore assure you that our AMS clocks will also reach you in their original box. The fact that the box was opened by us beforehand is quite likely, as we want to make sure before shipping that everything is in order with your clock. One example is our AMS 7246 pendulum clock. It features curved, partly satin-finished glass and a silver-colored pendulum. The pendulum of this modern wall clock is elegantly showcased through an opening at the front and ticks along in a soothing second rhythm.

2. Carefully open your clock box and remove the foam and Styrofoam

Some customers contact us and say they did not receive a pendulum for their wall clock . A closer look inside the box shows that the pendulum is usually hidden in the box. It is often stuck to the side wall or flap of the box, or well hidden among foam and Styrofoam. So it is worth taking another look in the box, and you are sure to find your pendulum. If not, you can reach us from 08.00 to 17.00, and on Fridays until 16.00, at (+49) 0541 / 8004967.

3. Remove the protective film from your pendulum

Ideally, there should be no scratches on your pendulum. What first looks like a scratch or dirt on the pendulum is in most cases just a protective film that is still stuck to the pendulum. So first remove all protective paper, adhesive strips, and films from the clock and the pendulum.

4. Align the pendulum clock

The clock should be securely and vertically positioned or mounted (check with a spirit level).

5. Attach the pendulum and, if applicable, the weights

Carefully hook the pendulum onto the pendulum top piece (to do this, hold the pendulum top piece steady with one hand and attach the pendulum with the other). The pendulum should hang straight when it is not moving. If it does not hang vertically, check whether the case is level. Now move the pendulum toward the case wall and let it start swinging. The initially large pendulum movements become smaller — it swings evenly.

Additional tip: adjust the pendulum’s timing!

The pendulum of a wall clock does not always swing at the same speed. With a small fine adjustment, you can precisely regulate the pendulum’s swing strength. At the lower end of the pendulum, many clocks have a screw attachment. This can be turned up and down. To make the pendulum tick faster and shorter, turn the screw upward. To get a larger and slower swing, turn the screw downward. This lets you set the timing of your pendulum however you like. Our photos provide guidance.
