Seiko SRPD79K1 Mechanical Wristwatch

Our watch of the week is the Seiko SRPD79K1, a stylish black men's watch. The watch is not only an automatic watch; it also comes from the Seiko 5 Sports series. Learn more in this post about the mechanical Seiko wristwatch, as well as the popular watch series.

Seiko 5 Sports

The first Seiko 5, the Seiko Sportmatic 5, was developed in 1963. It was the first automatic watch made by Seiko and in Japan to feature a day-date display. "5" was the promise that every Seiko 5 has five key features. These are: 1. Automatic movement, 2. Day-date display at the 3 o'clock position, 3. Water resistance, 4. Recessed crown at the 4 o'clock position, and 5. Case and bracelet designed for durability. Taken together, and combined with the newly developed springs and shock resistance systems of the time, these features gave the Seiko 5 models their distinctive look and strength. For over 50 years, Seiko 5 Sports has offered a consistently high level of reliability, durability, performance, and value that has inspired mechanical watch enthusiasts worldwide. With a new design concept and a broad new collection, this popular watch is being reborn today.

Our Seiko SRPD79K1

Our watch of the week, the Seiko SRPD79K1, has a black textile strap, as well as a black stainless steel case with titanium carbide coating. The case back is a screw-down exhibition back and the black bezel is unidirectional. Even the dial and dot indices are black, giving the wristwatch a particularly elegant look. However, the hands and indices are coated with LumiBrite and can therefore also be read in the dark. In addition to hours, minutes, and seconds, the men's watch also displays the date and day of the week. It is water resistant to 10 bar and protected by robust Hardlex glass. This is a mechanical wristwatch with calibre 4R36, and since hand-winding is possible, the watch is also a hand-wound watch. It has a power reserve of 41 hours and 24 jewels.
