The AMS 5979 All-Weather Clock
Our clock of the week is the AMS 5979 wall clock, which is suitable for outdoor use. But what exactly makes an outdoor clock, and why is this AMS clock so well suited for it? We outline some important features below.
Features of an outdoor clock
Outdoor clocks, as the name suggests, are designed for use outside. They can be used in the garden, on the terrace, on the balcony, or in the entrance area. They are therefore often also called garden clocks or have very similar properties. To prevent moisture from rain, snow, wind, or high air pressure from getting in and damaging the movement, outdoor clocks are equipped with special seals. The material in general is also very robust and should not discolor or be damaged in any way. In short, they have to be weatherproof!
Temperature display
The AMS wall clock can also display the temperature, which is also very practical for outdoor use. A quick glance is enough to keep an eye on the temperature on hot summer days. Temperature is a physical state variable. High temperatures are called hot, low ones cold.
Human perception of warmth is not based on temperature, but on heat flow. This is consistent with the fact that the sensation of warmth is often referred to as the perceived temperature and is felt as warmth or cold. The perceived temperature sometimes differs significantly from the actual temperature.
AMS 5979 all-weather clock
Our AMS 5979 can of course also be used indoors if desired. Nevertheless, it has a weather-protected round plastic case in beige-gray, giving it a stone-look appearance. The dial is also styled in a vintage look, as it clearly appears to have been affected by weather conditions. However, this look is intentional. Alongside the black Arabic numerals and hands, you can see a floral and bird motif. It features a radio-controlled movement that can also display the temperature.
