The Girlies and the Teenies
Girlie refers to a media phenomenon and a fashion trend of the 1990s, defined by adult women adopting clothing and accessories made for young girls in rejection of the prevailing image of women. Girlie is relatively rarely an identifying figure or self-description; more often, it is an external label that has usually been spread and shaped through the media. The word girlie can also describe a young woman who dresses in a girlish, unconventional way and comes across as self-confident, sometimes also cheeky and provocative.
Teenie is the short form of teenager. The word teenager comes from English and refers to a person who is at least 13 (thirteen) and at most 19 (nineteen) years old, though sometimes it also includes younger and older people. The numbers 13 to 19 end in English with “teen”, and the ending “ager” refers to the English word age for age.
The term has been used in the USA since around the mid-1930s and became fully established there in the mid-1940s. The emergence of the new definition of young people as teenagers was closely tied to the developing consumer society and the growing interest in young people as a target group for modern marketing. After the Second World War, the term also spread quickly in Europe and, due to the US occupation, particularly fast in West Germany.

As a stereotype, teenagers are portrayed especially in teen films as lively and emotionally unstable, which is probably meant to allude to the problems of puberty. So something that is especially girly or teen-like is understood to be something still childlike that is in the early stages of maturity.
