The World's Most Famous Watch Brands

Competition is always exciting and thrilling, where people or machines measure themselves against one another and where the question of superlatives comes into play. Who can run the 100 meters the fastest? How fast can a person even run? Where is the tallest tree in the world? How deep can a man-made underwater boat dive? The answers and solutions are often surprising, fascinating, and extremely interesting. We are fascinated by superlatives, and it is no coincidence that the Guiness Book of Records is very popular across all age groups. Since 1955, record cases from nature, art, sports, and many other areas of life have been collected here and published regularly.
Anyone who would like to know more about this can find further information on wikipedia http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness-Buch_der_Rekorde

As an established watch shop, we are also following a question of superlatives in this article:
"Which watch brand is considered the most famous watch brand in the world" ?
By degree of awareness, one means the percentage of potential customers who are familiar with a brand. A distinction is made between aided and unaided brand awareness. The difference lies in the way the survey question is asked. For example, in an aided brand-awareness survey, one might ask: "Which watch brands from the following 20 brands do you know?" whereas in an unaided survey, one simply asks about watch brands and does not provide a list of any known brands.
It can therefore be assumed that a high unaided level of brand awareness is much harder to achieve than aided awareness in the watch segment. In order to achieve a high level of awareness in general, marketing measures and advertising measures, the associated budget, and the lifespan of a brand play a decisive role.
The longer a brand has been established on the market, the greater the chance of achieving a high level of awareness.

As early as 1896, the brothers Ingersoll launched a pocket watch on the market. They named the model "Yankee," and the special feature was the price of one dollar, which at the time corresponded to a worker's daily wage. This meant that almost anyone could now afford a watch, which boosted awareness of and sales of Ingersoll watches. More than 40 million Dollar Watches were sold in the following 20 years. Unfortunately, the company ran into difficulties in 1921. Nevertheless, by that point a total of up to 70 million Ingersoll watches had been sold.
It is fair to say that with the idea of the Dollar Watch at the beginning of the 19th century, the Ingersoll brand was among the most famous watch brands in the world. The brand name has survived to this day, and Ingersoll is still sold worldwide today. Nevertheless, this brand can no longer be counted among the most famous watch brands in the world. In this respect, a brand's long-standing presence does not necessarily have a positive effect on today's level of awareness.

As the possibilities for advertising in mass media have changed completely over the past 25 years and the brand world is constantly in flux, brand awareness always depends heavily on what opportunities brands have
or had in recent years to stabilize and expand their awareness. When Nicolas G. Hayek launched the Swatch brand in 1983, he permanently changed the watch industry with it and helped save it. To this day, the Swatch brand is known worldwide and reaches top values in terms of unaided and aided awareness. Last but not least, credit is also due to Peter Petersen, who joined the brand in 1987 and led it until 1998. Through sophisticated marketing campaigns, Mr. Petersen managed to help the Swatch brand achieve its current level of awareness in the 1990s.

To answer the question of the world's most famous watch brands, no clear picture can ultimately be drawn. There is no worldwide study that creates a ranking. Accordingly, it is also very country-specific which brands play a role. However, in our own research, we kept coming across a brand that also achieves an enormously high score unaided. It is the Rolex brand.
Rolex was the first company to print the brand name on the dial. Another advantage is the easy-to-remember name, which is also pronounced the same in all European languages. The brand name was registered in 1908 and, like Ingersoll, has therefore been on the market for a very long time. The brand places great value on durability, precision, and operational reliability. This consistently high level of quality and the extensive advertising activity featuring celebrities from many areas of life over decades have made the Rolex brand one of the best-known, or perhaps even the most famous watch brand in the world.
