The World’s Time on a Clock

Would you like to know what time it is on the other side of the world? Whether your business partner in Sydney is already sitting at their desk? Or are you on a business trip and would still like to wish your child good night? The different time zones around the world make it necessary for us to keep track of time across continents.

World time

The world is divided into a total of 24 time zones. A time zone is a section of the Earth in which the time is the same everywhere at any given moment. The time zones are based on the Earth's lines of longitude. At the International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C., it was decided in 1884 that Greenwich should become the center of international timekeeping. The time measured in Greenwich is called Greenwich Mean Time, or GMT for short. At 12 noon GMT, the sun is directly above the prime meridian in Greenwich and is at its highest point. However, since the term GMT is outdated, today we speak of Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC for short, meaning coordinated world time. The Earth's time zones are derived from UTC and defined by their deviation from it. The Central European Time used in Germany corresponds to UTC+1 hour.

Several time zones at a glance

The world clock can display the times of different places around the world with the help of different clock faces. With the help of a world clock, you can keep track of the time in major cities such as New York, Sydney, Los Angeles, Beijing, Tokyo, or London.

World clocks can usually be customized so that only the places you are really interested in are displayed. Particularly attractive models are available from brands such as Karlsson, Seiko, and Nextime. These models, for example, offer the option of displaying three to six different times simultaneously. World clocks are available with both classic analog time displays and in digital form. These practical multi-talents are also often designed with large world maps on the dial. This not only makes them an eye-catcher in your living room or office, but also gives you the opportunity to see at a glance on the world map where the relevant time zone is located.

One of the latest models is the digital world clock with LED technology from the brand Nextime. The times of various cities are displayed on a world map. The exceptional black-and-white design with 24 generously sized, easy-to-read digital LED displays enhances any room. The name of the corresponding city is shown beneath each time display. The date and time can be set separately or synchronized with London for the current time zone. All other times are set automatically and run in sync with the local time. The world map, mounted in a black metal frame with a glass panel, measures 55 x 36 x 4 cm and weighs approx. 3.3 kg. With a length of approx. 55 cm, a height of approx. 36 cm, and a depth of approx. 4 cm, the world clock is designed for wall mounting.

The world clock is ideally suited for businessmen engaged in global business who need to know at all times what time it is for their business partner on the other side of the world. But the world clock is not only ideal for professional purposes; it is also perfectly suited for private use, making it an attractive and stylish accessory for your living space.
