Watch of the Week - Citizen NK5010-51X
This week, we are proud to present the Citizen NK5010-51X from the TSUYOSA collection as our "Watch of the Week". This collection marks a milestone in the history of
Citizen, as it stands out for using stainless steel instead of brass, representing greater durability and elegance. The Citizen NK5010-51X continues this tradition and brings modern improvements in design and functionality.
The Citizen
NK5010-51X is an elegant
wristwatch, which impresses with its refined design and high-quality craftsmanship. The silver stainless-steel case has a diameter of 40 mm, giving the watch a timeless and robust look.
The glass case back provides a fascinating view of the precise automatic movement, which offers an impressive 60-hour power reserve.
The gold-tone dial with its fine texture gives the watch a luxurious appearance.
The launch of the TSUYOSA series was a significant event in Citizen's portfolio. While many affordable watches were made of brass, Citizen opted for stainless steel to create a more robust and elevated watch. The TSUYOSA collection stood out for its elegant finishing, including a hairline surface finish on the top of the case, contrasted by the high-gloss polish on the bezel and the center links of the bracelet. These models became known for their luxurious design and attention to detail and were extremely popular in the late 1990s and 2000s.
The new TSUYOSA model
NK5010-51X is a modernized version that features a larger 40 mm case diameter. Luminous hands and luminous indices ensure excellent readability in all lighting conditions. This TSUYOSA Small Second not only features a new dial variant, but also another mechanical caliber. The 8322 caliber, equipped with an impressive 60-hour power reserve, offers the wearer exceptional comfort and precise timekeeping. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal reliably protects the watch from scratches, while the screw-down glass case back ensures secure handling.
Many elements of the original watch have been retained to preserve its characteristic slim silhouette, such as the crown at the 4 o'clock position. Other details, such as the fine beveling, brushing and polishing of the case and bracelet, as well as the smooth, hill-shaped links of the bracelet, ensure high wearing comfort and a refined appearance. The use of sapphire crystal glass underlines the watch's premium quality.
Particularly noteworthy is the variety of new dial colors, which give the collection a fresh and modern touch. The Citizen NK5010-51X is therefore not only a tribute to the successful TSUYOSA collection, but also proof of Citizen's innovative strength and craftsmanship.
The metal bracelet can be changed quickly and easily by pressing the two pins of the quick-release mechanism inward. An additional strap is not included.
Wristwatches - History and Development
Isn't it really interesting to know that as early as around 1900, the first watches were worn on the wrist? Incredible, since the development of wristwatches has rapidly accelerated from that point on.
Surely no one back then would have thought that the wristwatch, in all its forms, would become the watch style of the future.
Today, over a billion wristwatches are manufactured and sold every year. Incredible, yet still a success story of a product unlike any other.
The first watches for the wrist were worn by women. For men,
pocket watches without a strap remained extremely popular for a very long time. Watches with straps were considered "effeminate" by men at the time and were therefore initially avoided. Men carried their watches in a waistcoat pocket, where they were well protected.
In women's blouses and dresses, this option did not exist, so the strap and the watch were a good way to combine and serve as a wristwatch on women's wrists.
Well into the 20th century, men still mainly wore pocket watches. But that changed too when men realized that a wristwatch not only offered functional benefits, but could also highlight and enhance a person's style and status in addition to telling the time.
Wristwatch Brands
Today there are thousands of brands distributed worldwide.
Alongside new technical products in the smartwatch segment, internationally known brands have nevertheless been able to maintain or even expand their market leadership.
The theory that
wristwatches would soon be replaced by mobile phones and other technological innovations has not come true at all.
On the contrary, brands like CASIO and Citizen with their quartz models and automatic wristwatches remain bestsellers. Technical improvements such as Citizen's Eco-Drive technology have also contributed to this. The watch is essentially charged by the sun all the time, and the annoying battery replacement is no longer necessary. That delights customers.
Seiko has also made a significant contribution to the success of wristwatches in recent years with many innovations and improvements in the automatic watch segment.
New models such as the automatic watches
SRPK91K1,
SRPK87K1 and
SRPK89K1 are not only visually stunning, but also impress with hand-winding and a 41-hour power reserve.
As a result, these watches are almost always sold out immediately at Seiko.
