The LZ 129 Hindenburg
The Zeppelin LZ 129 "Hindenburg", named after the German Reich President Paul von Hindenburg, was, alongside its sister airship LZ 130, one of the two largest aircraft ever built. Its maiden voyage was in March 1936. On May 6, 1937, it was destroyed during landing in Lakehurst (New Jersey, USA) when the hydrogen fill ignited. 35 of the 97 people on board, as well as one member of the ground crew, lost their lives. Our Zeppelin pilot watches
The Zeppelin brand stands for "living legends" with functional precision. Inspired by its namesake Count Zeppelin, the German pioneer of aeronautics, the concept behind this watch collection focuses on European value production, exceptional precision movements, and elaborately designed cases that draw on historical models. The most striking features of a pilot watch are its rugged design, a high-contrast dial, and highly precise movements. In a pilot's everyday life, the watch should withstand friction and shocks while remaining easy to read in bright and dark light. Manufacturers had to adapt to demanding conditions:- Pilots operated the watch while wearing gloves
- In some cases, the watch was worn over the sleeve
- Materials had to meet a range of technical requirements
- many details on a wristwatch had to remain readable at all times
