The story of Seiko
Kintaro Hattori, who was 18 years old at the time, opened a watch repair shop in Tokyo in 1877. Due to his passion for watches, however, it did not stop at the repairs. After some time, he was producing pocket watches, alarm clocks and finally wristwatches. Hattori's passion has flowed into every single watch and after a short time word had quickly spread among the population and thus the interest in his special watches grew. What was initially a mere idea then became reality. In 1881 the company was founded. Since then, Seiko has been able to develop into a globally active company and is characterized by innovations in the field of watches.
To name a few of Seiko's innovations:
- 1969: Introduction of the first Seiko quartz wristwatch
- 1990: Introduction of the first computer-based Seiko diver's watch with functions such as date, alarm and dive table function
- 1999: Introduction of the first Seiko Spring Drive watch
- 2012: First Seiko watch with built-in GPS receiver (Astron GPS Solar)
Especially the Astron series, which was introduced in 2012, is impressive. The unique combination of smart technologies of GPS watches makes it possible for you to read the correct time with a Seiko Astron anywhere in the world. For adventurers and business travelers, these Seiko watches are ideal. In addition, thanks to the GPS signal, it is possible for every Astron watch to have etremely good accuracy. The Seiko watch uses its special solar technology to generate energy from all kinds of light. Combining solar power, GPS-controlled time and time zone adjustment, and other original features, the Seiko watch becomes one of the smartest world time wristwatches around.
environmental awareness
Seiko watches stand for the philosophy of always facing new challenges and breaking new ground with innovation and state-of-the-art technology. Not only has this made them etremely user-friendly, but they also promote so-called green technologies. In this contet, Seiko's Kinetic and Solar models are particularly noteworthy. These methods allow you to make a contribution to environmental protection. What's more, you don't have to worry about whether your watch might stop.
Kinetic
Kinetic means that you operate the watch with its own movements, from which the watch then generates its electrical energy. This eliminates the need to change batteries. A power reserve can be used to bridge movement breaks of up to si months or more. Even without the clock being moved. Nevertheless, the Seiko watches continue to run reliably, as ecess kinetic energy is stored. Since Seiko introduced the first Kinetic watch in 1986, the technology has been constantly evolving, so Kinetic watches are now even more precise than simple mechanical watches.
Solar
Since 1977, Seiko has had eperience in the production of watches with solar technology. To this day, Seiko watches have always been adapted to the respective zeitgeist and brought to the highest technological progress. The watches can score with well-designed dials and long power reserves. In particular, the improved and more efficient energy management means that even smaller amounts of light are sufficient to drive a watch permanently. A Seiko Solar watch can survive longer periods without eposure to light thanks to its dark power reserve.
